Collection: Cultural amnesia

With her exhibition, the artist 'Cultural_amnesia' (Nicole Grundhöfer) addresses the missing presence of the female body in medicine and drug research. She creates a space for exploring one's own womanhood.

The central piece is the work 'Stammzellen/Stem_cells 1.0', which also depicts these. As part of the exhibition 'BLOOD WITHOUT VIOLENCE', she performs the female cycle live and completes the work with the menstrual blood of people she knows and strangers. Under strict hygiene guidelines, a kind of symbolic artistic ritual takes place: one brushstroke per woman, per year of life. Menstruating individuals are invited to come to the Newman Gallery, 10777 Berlin, on June 13, 2026, and let their menstrual blood flow into the performance, into the artwork. The "gift" is contractually recorded, which entails an extensive engagement with the question/questions:
"What is physicality worth – biologically, socially, emotionally, and economically? What does my menstrual blood cost‽"
