Collection: Mason Weiss

Mason Weiss (he/they) is a queer, transgender multidisciplinary artist from Los Angeles, now residing in Potsdam, Germany. Weiss’ autobiographical practice is rooted in soft sculpture and photography, exploring themes of transformation, self-compassion, and radical care. Using nostalgic materials and an intuitive, improvisational process, they create playful textile figures that exist in a space between memory, fantasy, and lived experience. By staging these soft forms alongside themself in photographic tableau scenes, Weiss constructs an imagined family archive, creating alternative forms of kinship, lineage, and belonging. Through softness and play, their work conceives of the body as an evolving site of imagination and becoming rather than a fixed form.

Weiss holds a BFA in Sculpture with High Distinction from California College of the Arts in San Francisco. They have further developed their textile practice through courses at the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts and participated in residencies at GlogauAIR Berlin and Casa R.A.R.O. Barcelona, with an upcoming year-long residency at Scope BLN (March 2027 – March 2028). They were recognized as a Highly Commended Artist in the Homiens Art Prize in spring 2025.
