Collection: Johnny Abbate

Johnny Abbate is a photo artist who lives and works between Berlin and Naples. His images document the clash of eros, confusion, and loneliness—a kind of vulnerable pornography and thus a profound exploration of the nature of interpersonal encounters. His work has been published in over 80 books and magazines and exhibited in numerous European countries. He is currently on view at the Newman Gallery with his project FAGSMAFIA—a series of intimate, fetish-oriented Polaroids that depict fragments of personal encounters in which melancholy pierces the erotic. The project illuminates an often overlooked side of sexual experience: the aftermath—the comedown, the sinking into a gray Sunday, the questioning of the future while simultaneously repressing it.
