Collection: Ana Art

Anastasiia Basanets, known by her artistic name Ana Arte, is a Ukrainian contemporary artist who lives and works in Poland. Her relationship with art began with professional artistic training, but over time, her practice evolved into something deeply personal—a way to understand herself, other people, and the emotional traces of human relationships. After a period in her life where other areas took precedence, Basanets returned to painting with a new sense of purpose and clarity. She views the canvas not just as an object, but as a space where experiences, memories, identity, and emotions can be processed.

Her work navigates the tension between what a person shows and what remains hidden. Basanets is particularly interested in emotional vulnerability, proximity and distance, connection, loss, and change. Rather than depicting concrete events directly, she translates the emotional imprints of lived experiences into color, gesture, texture, and fragmented forms.

The human face has become the central starting point of this exploration. In her ongoing series "Visages," faces and eyes are not portraits of specific individuals. They represent inner states—those parts of us that remain after relationships, experiences, and our own understanding of identity have shifted. Her paintings are created through an intuitive, multi-layered process: images are built up, hidden, broken apart, and made visible again—similar to how memory itself functions.

In her series "Emotional Horizons," Ana Arte extends this personal investigation to urban and spatial landscapes. Horizons, architecture, light, and color become metaphors for inner states and emotional movements. In both bodies of work, she is interested in the invisible dimension of human experience—in what cannot always be put into words, yet remains palpable.

Her artistic guiding principle, "I don’t paint people. I paint what remains of them," describes the core of her work: preserving the emotional footprint of human encounters and transforming personal experiences into something universal.
