Collection: Mx Donia Love

Mx. Donia Love (pronouns: they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Barcelona working in sculptural installation and wearable art. Their practice is rooted in maximalism as method: in the belief that exuberance, ornament, and a refusal to understate are not stylistic choices but political ones. Central to their current work is *Discobolus Glittomyces* — a speculative natural history taxonomy, more commonly known as Disco Fungus — a series of sculptural “specimens” presented as a newly discovered genus of fungus growing where queerness and joy collide.

The *Discobolus Glittomyces* series borrows the formal authority of scientific documentation — Latin binomial names, specimen cards, habitat field notes, numbered cataloguing — and applies it to something disobedient: the thesis that queer joy is not rare, not contingent, and not something that needs permission to exist. Each piece is catalogued, mapped, and given a unique specimen number, building a taxonomy that treats celebration as biological fact. The materials — disco balls, rhinestones, and glitter — are not decorative embellishments but the medium through which the argument is made. Light is captured, multiplied, and thrown back into a space — not to transform it, but to reveal what has always been there.

Love began the series in the summer of 2025 in their Barcelona studio, drawing on a long practice in wearable sculpture under the name Trash & Glow, as well as a prior career as a circus performer — a background whose theatricality and physical precision resonates in everything they create.

In early 2026, Love completed a residency at House of Q (HOQ) in Stockholm — a queer arts organization and community space — where they developed and installed twenty-six numbered *Discobolus Glittomyces* specimens. These works continue to be on permanent display at HOQ, where they are growing into the space. Love has also co-designed and now directs HOQ’s monthly artist residency program as Dream Keeper — a role focused on giving emerging queer artists a consistent place to flourish, experiment, and create without compromise.

*Discobolus Glittomyces* is currently represented at Galerie Newman, Berlin, and a new site-specific series is in development for ODD Kiosk in Barcelona. Love’s work is finding its way into queer art communities throughout Europe and beyond — Barcelona, Stockholm, and Berlin are exciting initial beachheads for a taxonomy that, by its own logic, was always destined to grow.

Original commissions are accepted on a limited basis. All commissioned specimens are cultivated specifically for their intended space and come with a unique site-specific specimen card.
