Matthias Bade
Matthias Bade is an Austrian artist who lives in Berlin and Vienna. For more than 30 years, he has been an established figure in the contemporary art scene of both cities. His recent solo exhibition, "Love," at The Ballery gallery in Berlin, and numerous group exhibitions underscore his sophisticated painting technique and his dialogue with classical art.
Bade's early breakthrough came in 2001 with "That's New!" at the IG Bildende Kunst gallery in Vienna, followed by exhibitions at the Ernst Hilger Gallery and the Schleifmühlgasse 12–14 Gallery. He has collaborated with artists such as Erik Smith and Uwe Jonas, expanded his practice, and explored new artistic directions.
In addition to his visual art, Bade has worked as an illustrator in the Hollywood film industry, contributing to productions such as John Wick 4 and Baghead. His recent exhibitions, including Europe without End (2025) and PEACE – don't make me laugh // You A Two Minute Brother at the Spor Klübü in Berlin, showcase his evolution from classical painting to digital art and paper cutting.
Bade frequently explores themes such as identity, society, and the human condition, as seen in works like Männerwelten (2015) and SMart Tools (2016). His works invite viewers to question their own perceptions and engage with contemporary cultural narratives.
Matthias Bade lives in Berlin and also works as a lyric baritone at various opera houses.
