Collection: Marvin Fonfara

Marvin Fonfara is a contemporary artist from Wormsdorf in the Magdeburg Börde region of Germany. Since studying at Bauhaus University Weimar, he has lived and worked in Weimar. In his figurative painting, he combines acrylic, spray paint, and markers to create intense, intimate visual worlds. At the heart of his queer art are desire, intimacy, visibility, and the question of how people overcome inner boundaries, take up space, and develop.

Through precise observation and empathetic listening, Fonfara develops tension-filled compositions of bodies, gestures, and encounters. Affection can turn into confrontation, sensuality into overwhelm, and vulnerability into self-assertion. Luminous colors, dark areas, and sometimes UV-reactive accents give the paintings an immediate presence. The deliberately ambiguous scenes open up different interpretations and invite viewers to find their own experiences, memories, and desires in the works.

Fonfara studied product design at Bauhaus University Weimar. His final project "Inclusive Product Design – Designing Sensitively for Diversity" was selected for national and international exhibitions as part of the German Design Graduates initiative, supported by the German Design Council. Presentations at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg and at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven made the work accessible to a broad professional audience. His intensive engagement with different bodies, needs, and perspectives continues to shape his artistic practice to this day.

Following two independently realized pop-up exhibitions in Weimar, Fonfara is expanding his presence through Galerie Newman Berlin and Pride Art Berlin e.V. Under the guiding principle "Keep on exploring," he sees painting as an invitation to embrace the joy of experimentation, personal freedom, and new forms of visibility.
