Farrand Bloch
In his job as editor-in-chief of an international magazine, he always showed a particular interest in photography. This long experience gave rise to the desire to pick up a camera himself. Initially, he photographed landscapes, but soon turned his attention to male dancers and acrobats, whose trained and agile bodies fascinated him deeply. He stages the often unclothed models in environments or with elements that emphasize their forms and movements. In 2018, he began experimenting with painting male portraits with acrylic paints and spray cans on used cardboard – a liberating experience in contrast to the structured precision of photography. Painting opened up a new, process-oriented approach to representation. It allowed him to gradually approach the diverse expressive possibilities of the male body. When the viewer can understand this fascination, they consider their goal achieved. He draws his inspiration from a wide variety of media, which he often combines with his own photographs. His works have been exhibited at venues including the Amsterdam Art Fair, Art Breda, and the Mooiman Gallery in Groningen (NL). Two photo books featuring his photographic work were published in 2014 and 2022.
