Collection: Allegra Piergallini

Allegra Piergallini, born in Velbert on October 8, 2007, studies Fine Arts at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. This year, she was awarded the Grazia Lindt Prize by the German-Italian Society Düsseldorf for her projects on the image of women in Germany and Italy.

Within her artistic practice, Allegra Piergallini pursues an interdisciplinary approach, which has particularly developed in the performative realm in her most recent phases of work. In addition to overarching social issues, her works primarily deal with the role and perception of women. The themes covered range from sexuality and the dynamic relationship between men and women to individual ideas of femininity in their respective historical contexts.

She shies away neither from provocative nor extreme forms of representation. The female body is neither idealized nor aesthetically transfigured but shown in its reality. Viewers are confronted with a reality that is not intended to be pleasant, soothing, or comforting. Rather, they are invited to perceive and understand the inner conflicts of the women portrayed by the artist – conflicts that often have a deeply personal dimension. This confrontation is intended to critically question social inequalities between the sexes.
