Willibrord Haas
Willibrord Haas, born in 1936 in Schramberg in the Black Forest, grew up in a family with a strong artistic bent. After graduating from high school in Wangen im Allgäu, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he became a master student. Early on, he turned away from portrait painting and found his true form of expression in abstract art – as a counterpoint to reality and as a manifestation of his credo, "Never again war – at least not in the realm of my art."
Haas has lived and worked in Berlin since the 1960s. Alongside his work as a painter, he was also active in the theater, where he developed his distinctive visual language in small-format watercolors and later in large-format works, graphics, and print series. Numerous exhibitions and publications have accompanied his artistic output.
Despite personal losses, art always remained a source of strength and new beginnings for Haas – a medium of peace and joy of life.
