Collection: Ringo Sommerfeld

Ringo Sommerfeld, born in Zeitz and now living in Leipzig, is one of the most exciting voices in contemporary queer photography. Growing up in a large family with twelve children, he experienced an environment characterized by confinement and social constraints from an early age. In a small town where right-wing extremism and intolerance were part of everyday life, he had to hide his identity for a long time – experiences that continue to shape his artistic work.

After moving to Leipzig in 2015, Sommerfeld found the freedom to live openly as a homosexual and to develop creatively. A key moment in his artistic development was his visit to the lesbian and gay street festival in Berlin in 2014, where he was deeply moved by the homoerotic works of the Newman Gallery and the art book My Gay Eye .

Since then, Sommerfeld has dedicated himself to homoerotic photography as a means of liberation and reflection. His images blend personal experience, sensitivity, and strength into a visual language that simultaneously expresses intimacy and self-confidence. His work gives people space to show themselves authentically—vulnerably, proudly, and unvarnished.
