Norbert Heuler
Born in Heidelberg in 1952, Norbert Heuler has lived in Berlin since 1971, where he studied architecture at the Technical University.
He never made photography his profession – yet it has been a significant part of his life for decades. His pictures arise from the moment: from the joy of observing and the desire to capture what he sees. He is particularly fascinated by the male body – a central theme of his artistic work. Since the early 1970s, he has not only portrayed other men but also himself in countless portraits and nudes, which to this day form a very personal body of work.
Since the 1980s, his photographs have been widely published, including in gay magazines as well as on posters and in brochures for Deutsche Aidshilfe (German AIDS Foundation). Among his most famous works is the motif for the first official DAH poster from 1985, titled "safe, better, safer sex."
