Collection: Maximilian Square

Maximilian zum Quadrat – Between Realities: Is it possible to question the limits of perception and delve into the multifaceted inner world of an artist living with schizophrenia? The works of Maximilian zum Quadrat are visual records of a consciousness that oscillates between clarity and fragmentation. Hallucinations become forms, fractures become bridges – images that oscillate between beauty and disquiet. Born in Marburg, raised in Oldenburg, and repeatedly based in Berlin-Neukölln, Maximilian zum Quadrat creates a “magic triangle” of experiences in which reality and perception, structure and chaos, inner and outer worlds merge. His art is not a retreat into inner darkness, but a radically open dialogue: with the voices within, with society, with ourselves. As a genderqueer person, Maxi moves in a body that defies categorization – a male body, surrounded by shifting silhouettes, sometimes gentle, sometimes demanding, sometimes fleetingly feminine. This fluid identity is reflected in the images: boundaries dissolve , identities overlap, perception becomes movement. In a time when reality is often understood as consensus, Maximilian Squared poses the question: How real is what we see – and whose reality is it, actually?
