Mathias Schwarz
Mathias Schwarz (b. 1989) lives on the German-French border and has dedicated himself to painting and drawing for many years. His work centers on the attempt to make visible what often cannot be put into words. His pieces emerge from inner states, memories, and contrasts – from the space between past and present, calm and restlessness, vulnerability and strength.
Schwarz understands figure and material as two forms of expression of the same inner language. Structure, relief, and surface are not merely design tools for him, but carriers of emotions, ruptures, and change. Using materials such as structural paste, sand, paper, fabric, and ceramics, he creates multi-layered works that invite viewers not just to look, but to feel.
His art does not seek clear answers. It opens up spaces for what often remains hidden – for the unspoken, the contradictory, and the in-between. In this way, works are created that invite viewers to find their own memories, feelings, and experiences reflected within them.
