Irène Mélix (*1988) is an artist and cultural worker. She studied cultural studies in Hildesheim and Paris, as well as fine arts in Dresden and Krakow. She works multimedia at the intersection of political and aesthetic questions. Her main interest lies in the potential of artistic methods to tell stories. Her themes include the construction of queer identities, political histories, border spaces, and the conditions of artistic work itself. Her research-based works take her to international archives, she exhibits throughout Europe, teaches at universities, and works as a curator. Her works have been shown at the Kunstmuseum Bochum (2026), Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen (2026), BWA Wrocław (2025), Kunsthaus Dresden (2023, 2024), Kunsthalle Osnabrück (2022), Schwules Museum Berlin (2021), the Pochen Bienale (2020), the Lyon Biennale (2019), AIR Wrocław (2019), and the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin (2018), among others.
In 2025, she completed her doctorate in artistic research at the Bauhaus University Weimar, in which she investigated artistic methods of queering historiographies. After a residency at ISCP in Brooklyn, New York, she now lives and works again in Dresden.
