Collection: Assima

Born in France in 1998, Assima is a French-Pakistani artist working with analogue photography, photomontage, and painting. Her artistic practice explores questions of identity, memory, gender, and cultural heritage, drawing from both personal experiences and broader societal and political histories.

She holds a master's degree in art research, during which she focused on Pakistani female artists since 1947. By combining academic research and artistic practice, she examines the intersections of post-colonial history, representation, feminist perspectives, and contemporary visual culture.

As part of this research, she spent a month in Pakistan, where she established significant connections with leading female artists and cultural figures, including Salima Hashmi and Naazish Ataullah. This experience profoundly shaped her understanding of artistic transmission, cultural memory, and the role of art in resisting dominant historical narratives.

Since moving to Berlin in 2023, she has expanded her artistic practice to include art direction and community-based cultural projects.

In all her works, whether personal or collaborative, she understands art as a deeply political practice: as a space where narratives can be reclaimed, communities built, and alternative futures imagined.
