Achim Girr
Achim Girr, born in Mannheim in 1967, lives and works as a self-taught artist in Viernheim, Southern Hesse. Encouraged early on by his art teacher, Ms. Ciupka, he developed a sustained artistic practice during his school years that has accompanied him for many years. After training as a technical draughtsman in mechanical engineering, painting remained a continuous counterpoint to the technical precision of his professional life. In his independent works, primarily with charcoal and chalk, he initially created landscapes and figural studies, with a particular focus on the male nude. Formative stays in Berlin broadened his visual and thematic horizons and led to a more intense engagement with subcultural milieus and their aesthetic forms of expression. These impressions now form a central resonance space in his artistic work, which he has recently consistently been transferring into classical oil painting.
