My artistic work explores the tension between intimacy and societal taboos surrounding menstrual blood. While blood is visible and socially accepted in the context of violence, it often remains invisible and associated with shame in and through the female-assigned body. The works show real traces in the private space, the bathroom – a place of cleansing and
control – and relate them to everyday red elements. In juxtaposition with an accompanying, fragmented inner monologue, a visual dialogue emerges between corporeality and surroundings, between control and loss, between aestheticization and evaluation. At the core is the question of what visibility does to us and who determines which corporealities are considered unpleasant or acceptable.
