"Erdbeermarmelade" (Strawberry Jam) not only deals with the female cycle, but also embodies it. The artist did not merely experience her cycle while creating the work, but actually used her own blood and discharge as material, weaving it into the layers of paint.
Grotesque and wondrous, the work thus depicts both the beauty and the pain of womanhood and menstruation.
Provocation overcomes disgust, and radical self-love breaks through learned shame – where society's menu wants to separate us from ourselves, we must find a taste for what is taboo.
