flow shows a close-up of a vulva, gently opened with two fingers. Menstrual blood emerges and flows beyond the image boundaries onto the floor, where it collects in a small puddle.
The work is executed in the style of a diamond painting and consists of thousands of sparkling plastic stones. The glittering surface evokes decorative kitsch and traditional notions of femininity. This creates a tension between aesthetic staging and physical reality.
The blood continues onto a separate floor element, depicting a tiled floor – a reference to everyday, intimate spaces where menstruation occurs, yet is often meant to remain invisible. By leaving the image space, the blood becomes visible as a natural part of life.
Framed with beige lace, the work combines traditional symbols of femininity with a direct and unembellished depiction of the body. Based on photographic templates, flow presents menstruation as a natural reality and creates space for greater visibility, destigmatization, and normalization.
