Created on the first day of her first menstruation in 2026, this work appeared before its meaning was understood. As the blood moved freely across the paper, the shape of an eagle emerged – a symbol that is among the most enduring signs of imperial power. For centuries, the eagle has stood for freedom, fearlessness, and dominion, and is found in the heritage of the Holy Roman Empire as well as in the national emblems of Germany and the United States – the two countries that shape Dani's own identity.
Yet the eagle in this work does not appear triumphant, but angry.
Dani understands it as a symbol of an imperial power in a state of upheaval: two strongly patriarchal and militarized nations whose history is overshadowed by violence and genocide, and who are currently experiencing profound political and social transformations.
Others recognize the shape as a dolphin.
