Willi de Vries' figurative works are typically part of comprehensive projects. The focus of his works is, on the one hand, an exploration of art itself, and, on the other, aspects of masculinity and identity in modern society. His painterly approach represents a modern adaptation of old master painting techniques.

Willi de Vries has been working as a freelance artist in Cologne since 2020. From 2016 to 2020, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Dutch Studies at the University of Cologne. During his two-year Erasmus stay from 2009 to 2011, he also deepened his specialist knowledge at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Previously, from 2008 to 2015, Willi de Vries studied fine art, art education, and Dutch and German language and literature (teaching at secondary schools, intermediate schools, and comprehensive schools) at the University of Cologne. Before studying in Cologne, he had already completed a degree in art history and a language examination in Dutch as a second language (ITN) at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
